FAQs

  • Choosing a stylist is like picking a tattoo artist, you want someone who really gets your vision and desired look. Tracy specializes in natural, lived-in colours and perfectly blended, tousled layers on bobs and long hair, working with wavy and straight textures of all densities.

Tracy has fine, thinner, straight hair naturally, so she brings plenty of firsthand experience to understanding and styling this hair type.

Her clients are mostly everyday gals who love low-maintenance, effortless styles that celebrate natural beauty.

While she truly appreciate everyone’s interest in her services, if your vision falls outside her area of expertise, she may recommend another stylist. This is never an easy decision and not because she’s not excited to work with you, it’s because she believes anything worth doing is worth doing well. She respects your time and investment, and wants every client to feel confident that when she’s working on your hair, she’s doing so with full confidence and care. She’s happy to recommend stylists who specialize in areas outside her expertise, such as curly hair, barbering, creative (editorial) cuts, vivid colours or special event (eg. Bridal) styling.

If you are uncertain if your hair and vision fall within her area of expertise, please see Tracy’s portfolio or her instagram. You may also contact her directly.

  • If you’re coming for a full haircut then don’t worry, we will wash your hair prior to starting!

If you’re coming for a dry cut, we ask that you wash the day of your appointment. Please use little to no styling products, especially those that make combing through the hair difficult.

If you’re coming in for a colour service, please have your hair washed with little to no product 24 to 48 hours prior to the appointment. Build up from styling products, and/or oils can make it difficult for the colour to penetrate to where it needs to go. It can cause a chemical reaction and create unpredictable results. It also makes colour matching and the application (in some cases) more difficult.

  • We understand that life, work, and Toronto traffic can be unpredictable, but we can’t always accommodate late arrivals. Please text us at 647-450-4284 if you think you may be late at all. If you’re running more than 10 minutes behind, depending on your hair and the service booked, we may need to shorten your appointment (for example, skipping the wash, blow dry, or style) or ask you to reschedule. This is handled on a case-by-case basis to avoid disrupting other clients’ appointments and to ensure our stylists get their proper breaks. We appreciate your understanding.

Please see our no-show policy for more information on last minute cancellations.

  • If you’re within 15 minutes of your appointment you’re welcome to buzz in and hang out in our waiting area, have a coffee, tea, or water til your stylist is ready for you.

If you’re quite early (which we appreciate more than being late) feel free to grab a coffee and pastry at Larry’s next door or check out one of the many great businesses in Parkdale before heading over to help your stylist not feel rushed through their current appointment.

  • We don’t have any designated parking spots however there is a Green P lot just across the street beside the Dollarama. There are also parking spots right on Queen Street (with restrictions during rush hour). The side streets also have on street parking, although many have time limits. We do not recommend parking on street with strict time limits for colour services as they can sometimes run long and are difficult to step away from to move your vehicle.

  • We take all forms of payment, cash, debit and the major credit card companies. Also, if you for some reason forget your wallet (it definitely happens) we can accept e-transfer as well!

  • New client forms help us understand your needs and book the right service for you. The last thing we want is for you to come in and realize (once you’re in the chair) that it’s not the right fit. We know filling out forms can feel like a hassle, but trust us, it’s way better than leaving without getting your hair done!

  • Absolutely! We recommend washing your hair the day of your appointment and using little to no styling products if possible. Since we’ll likely need to brush through your hair to cut it, the less product, the better. Please note that Dry Cuts don’t include a wash or style, so your new look might not “pop” until you wash and style it at home.

Dry cuts are ideal for clients with straight or wavy hair who wear it naturally or style it sleek with a flat iron.

  • If your preferred date or time isn’t available but falls within our working hours, we suggest booking the next best option and adding yourself to our waitlist. Cancellations happen, and being on the waitlist gives you first dibs when a spot opens, offered on a first-come, first-served basis. You can also check back 24–48 hours before your desired time to see if any new openings have popped up.

    Tracy’s working hours are:

    Sun /Mon: CLOSED
    Tue / Wed/ Fri / Sat: 10 AM – 6 PM
    Thurs: 10:30 AM – 6:30 PM

*To maintain a healthy work-life balance, all services must be completed within our operating hours.

  • We offer quick 15-minute bang trim appointments, either in between your regular hair appointments or added onto a colour service. If you’d like to add one to a colour service, please note it when booking. For standalone bang trims, text 647-450-4284 with your request and availability. Pricing ranges for these appointments depending on when your last cut with us was or if you’re a new client, so please ask before booking. Since we fit these in between our other services, wait times can sometimes be up to two weeks or more. Thanks for your patience and understanding!

Unfortunately there is no wiggle room for lateness for bang trims, so we encourage clients to show up 10-15 minutes early to avoid having to reschedule.

If you’re running late, please text us at 647-450-4284 before heading to the salon so we can let you know if we’re still able to accommodate you. Arriving late without notice (or not showing up at all) will result in a no-show fee being applied to your account. Please see our policies for more details.

  • The easiest way to let your stylist know you’d like some quiet time is to add “Quiet Appointment” to the appointment notes when booking. Whether you want to focus on work, enjoy a book or podcast, or simply relax with your thoughts, this lets us know to keep conversation to a minimum. While we try to read the room, it’s not always easy to tell, so if you have a laptop, phone, or book out, we’ll leave you be unless it’s necessary to chat.

If you didn’t add “Quiet Appointment” to your notes but decide you’d like silence, simply say, “I’m just going to close my eyes for this appointment,” and we’ll make sure you can enjoy your peace and quiet.

  • If you’re coming in for a colour service, please have your hair washed with little to no product 24 to 48 hours prior to the appointment. Build up from styling products, and/or oils can make it difficult for the colour to penetrate to where it needs to go. It can cause a chemical reaction and create unpredictable results. It also makes colour matching and the application (in some cases) more difficult.

  • I understand that everyone’s time is valuable, but quality work requires the right amount of time. If you can’t commit to the scheduled appointment length, we kindly ask that you reschedule for a time when you can fully relax or consider booking a different service or with another stylist who can better fit your schedule.

Services can be unpredictable and sometimes we can run behind. Despite our best efforts, we cannot guarantee your appointment will start at your designated time. In order to ensure quality, we will also not guarantee clients shorter appointment times than what is stated on our website and booking service, so please make sure before you book that you are available for the full length of the allotted service time.

  • We totally get that some clients prefer a calm, low-stimulation experience during their salon visit. If you’re sensitive to noise, smells, massage or bright lights, just let us know when you book or before your appointment. We’ll do our best to keep things quiet, use gentle products, skip the massage or create a chill, comfortable space just for you.

If you have any special requests or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out or add it to your appointment notes. Please be clear and specific in your requests, and try to avoid broad terms since they can mean many different things.

  • To keep your new colour looking vibrant and healthy, here’s what we recommend:

    1. Wait before washing

      • Hold off washing your hair for at least 48 hours after your appointment to allow the colour to fully settle.

    2. Use colour-safe products

      • Switch to a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner specifically formulated for colour-treated hair to help prevent fading and maintain hydration. For optimal repair and long-lasting results, choose products with a Bond Builder or Peptide Repair formula.

    3. Wash less often

      • Aim for 2–3 washes a week to extend the life of your colour. Use dry shampoo between washes if needed.

    4. Cool it down

      • Wash and rinse your hair with lukewarm or cool water, as hot water can open the hair cuticle and accelerate colour fading. This is especially important for maintaining the vibrancy of coppers, reds, and other vivid shades.

    5. Heat styling care

      • Always apply a heat protectant before using blow dryers, flat irons, or curling wands. High heat can dull your colour.

    6. Protect from the sun & pool

      • UV rays, chlorine, and saltwater can all affect your colour. Wear a hat in the sun, swim cap (when possible) and rinse hair with fresh water before and after swimming. Chlorine can cause discoloration and severely dry out colour-treated hair, so it’s best to avoid contact whenever possible.

    7. Stay hydrated

      • Use a weekly deep-conditioning mask to maintain softness and shine, especially if you had lightening or bleach work done.

    8. Touch-up timing

      • Book your next appointment before leaving the salon to keep your colour fresh and even.

    1. Use a gentle shampoo and conditioner, preferably sulfate-free and suited to your hair type. Folks with colour treated hair should only use colour safe products, preferably with a “Bond Builder” or “Peptide Repair”.

    2. Wash your hair 2–3 times a week to keep natural oils balanced.

    3. Rinse with lukewarm or cool water to protect your hair cuticles.

    4. Avoid sleeping on wet hair to prevent breakage and frizz.

    5. Swap your cotton pillowcase for a silk or satin one to reduce friction and keep hair smooth.

    6. Tie your hair loosely in a bun or braid at night to minimize tangles and damage caused by friction.

    7. Use a natural bristle brush and brush nightly from root to ends to help distribute natural oils, promoting healthy shine and moisture.

    8. Limit heat styling and always use heat protectant when you do.

    9. Give your hair some love with a deep-conditioning mask once a week, and add a leave-in conditioner to your post-shower routine for extra moisture and shine.

    10. Get regular trims every 3 to 4 months to keep ends healthy. Broken hair only breaks more as it grows, never getting longer.

    11. Protect your hair from sun exposure and chlorine by wearing hats or using protective sprays.

    12. Keep Product Use Light.
Too much styling product or oil can weigh hair down and cause buildup. Use sparingly, focusing on the ends for a fresh, healthy look.

    13. Be Gentle with Hairstyles.
Avoid tight hairstyles and high ponytails that can cause breakage and stress on your hair. Opt for loose styles to keep your strands healthy and happy.

    14. Keep an eye on bag straps! When long hair gets caught or rubbed under them, the friction can cause breakage. If one side of your hair just “won’t grow,” your purse strap could be the culprit.

    15. Be gentle with wet hair.
Use a Tangle Teezer or a Wet Brush to carefully work through knots without causing breakage. Start from the ends and work your way up for the smoothest results.

    16. Blow Dry Your Roots.
Focus on drying your roots thoroughly with a blow dryer to help reduce oiliness and keep your hair feeling fresh longer between washes.

    17. Maintain a balanced diet and stay hydrated. Healthy hair starts from within.

  • If you’ve gotten a full highlight, babylights or balayage, you may not need to book another full for your next service. Here’s what we recommend:

    • If you want a lot more lightness through your mids to ends to your hair, book a “full” service (full highlight, full babylight or balayage).

    • If you’re looking to bring your lightness up but not necessarily add a lot more lightness through the mids and ends, book a “partial”. This covers the top section of your hair that veils over top, as well as the front hairline. This is recommended every:

      • 2-3 months for babylights

      • 3-4 months for highlights

      • 4-6 months for balayage

    • If you are happy with your lightness but just miss it’s original tone, book a “Toner”. This can be booked as a standalone service or easily added onto a haircut as well.

    • If you’re looking for a quick, budget-friendly option with light coverage, book a “Mini.” This includes a few highlights around your part, front hairline, and crown. It’s not recommended for those with a shifting part (folks who flip their hair) or for babylights. A quick fix, perfect for events that fall in between your regular colour maintenance schedule.

Check out our Services page for more details on services, pricing, and timing.

  • Not at all. We’ve seen it all—dandruff, lumps, bumps, bald spots, oily scalp, and more—and none of it is anything to be ashamed of. If you’re comfortable, just let us know during your consultation, and we’ll make sure to tailor your care with the right products and techniques to the best of our abilities. Your unique hair and scalp needs are completely welcome here, no apologies necessary!

Although we love to be helpful, a dermatologist is best suited to diagnosis, recommend and prescribe treatments and solutions for scalp conditions.

  • Hair growth can be influenced by lots of factors like genetics, diet, stress levels, and hair care habits. Often, it’s not about what you’re doing “wrong,” but rather what might be missing from your routine—like gentle handling, regular trims to prevent breakage, and nourishing your scalp and strands.

Here are some common causes of breakage to consider that may be within your control:

    • Are you heat styling regularly? Are you using a heat protectant?

    • Are you wearing high tension styles, such as high, tight ponytails or buns?

    • Is your hair colour treated, over processed and/or you’re not doing the recommended aftercare?

    • Do you swim, or wash your hair a lot (daily)?

    • Are you skipping regular trims? Or not cutting off all your split ends?

    • Are you being rough with your wet hair? are you sleeping on your hair wet?

    • Are you eating a well balanced diet?

Other things that are not generally within your control but cause temporary hair loss:

    • Did you recently have a baby?

    • Are you experiencing higher than normal stress? Maybe caused by school, work, divorce, family, a profound loss or short term medical issue?

Other things that are not generally within your control but cause more long term or permanent hair loss:

    • Is alopecia or other hair loss conditions or thin, fine hair common in your family?

    • Do you have any long term medical conditions that affect nutrient absorption?

Tips to Support Hair Health and Reduce Hair Loss:

    1. Be gentle with your hair

      • Avoid tight hairstyles, harsh brushing, and excessive heat styling to minimize breakage.

    2. Maintain a balanced diet

      • Ensure you’re getting enough protein, iron, vitamins (especially Biotin, Vitamin D, and Zinc), and omega-3 fatty acids.

    3. Manage stress

      • Chronic stress can contribute to hair loss, so try relaxation techniques like meditation, exercise, or yoga.

    4. Keep your scalp healthy

      • Regular cleansing and gentle exfoliation can prevent buildup and create a healthy environment for hair growth.

    5. Avoid harsh chemical treatments

      • Limit bleaching, frequent dyeing, and chemical straightening which can weaken hair.

    Proven Solutions and Treatments:

    1. Topical treatments

      • Products containing minoxidil (Rogaine) have been clinically proven to stimulate hair growth.

    2. Prescription medications

      • An option for some people, but it requires a doctor’s supervision.

    3. Professional scalp treatments

      • Some salons offer specialized scalp massages, laser therapy, or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments to promote growth.

    4. Hair growth supplements

      • Supplements formulated with key vitamins and minerals can support overall hair health—always check with your healthcare provider first.

    5. Consult a dermatologist or trichologist

      • If hair loss is significant or sudden, seeing a specialist can help identify underlying causes and recommend targeted treatments.

  • We love that you want to share your salon experience, but we kindly ask that you come to your appointment solo. Our space is cozy, especially the waiting area and we don’t have room for extra guests, strollers, or little ones at the stations.

As much as we adore kids, the salon just isn’t a safe place for them — with sharp tools, hot irons, and chemical products around, it can be risky even if they’re sitting on your lap.

Bringing the focus to you helps us give you the best service possible, and keeps the atmosphere calm and relaxing for everyone. Thank you so much for understanding and helping us make the salon a safe, enjoyable space!
